Our team at The Old Post Office Wellbeing Hub are passionate educators, focused on supporting anyone who is struggling with the education system. We appreciate, within this vision, the need for a space where school staff can also be supported and helped to manage through tough times.
It may be that your issue is personal or linked to your role in school and we are here to support all areas of need.
Within our offer, we will be running groups courses at our purpose-made hub; we will also offer individual support and will be making our services available to schools.
Unless specified in the title of the event, any member of school staff is welcome to attend. Inherently, I class all school leaders as 'teachers' at heart and they are also more than welcome to attend any event we hold!
Book Club will be run termly and is aimed at teachers and English Leaders who love using books to engage learners. The Club will be run by Anita who is a great fan of the CLPE and uses their inspirational work to guide her own practice.
Each term, a new text will be chosen and attendees will be encouraged to take the text away, read it and then bring back to the group ideas about how the text could be used in the classroom to motivate and engage children, while supporting their language and knowledge development.
The first session, on the 14th September, will run slightly differently as there is not a prior session. In this session, we will study a picture book together so that we understand how the group will run, and then you will be given a chapter book to take home.
Price £15 to include the text and refreshments. Advance booking is essential as Anita needs to ensure she has enough books and wine! Contact Anita to book on anita.auer2021@outlook.com
A TeachMeet is an organised but informal meeting for teachers, or support staff if the topic is of interest to them, to share good practice, practical innovations and personal insights.
The Old Post Office will facilitate a 'TeachMeet' each term and the events are open to anyone who would like to contribute or just listen. The format of our TeachMeet meetings will be that a keynote speaker will speak for ten minutes about the chosen topic, others will then be invited to speak for 5 minutes and then the floor will be opened to general discussion around the topic. The topic is shared in advance so that attendees can choose to offer to speak, present, share resources / ideas etc - there is no obligation for anyone to speak if they don't want to.
As the TeachMeet on Thursday 21st September will be our first in this academic year, Anita will be leading and will talk about her experience of embedding 'High-quality teaching' (also known as 'Quality First Teaching') into her own practice last year and the outcomes.
Price £5 to include refreshments. Advance booking is essential as Anita needs to ensure she has enough nibbles and wine!
If you would like to book, and want to express a desire to speak or share, please email Anita on anita.auer2021@outlook.com
The Old Post Office Wellbeing Hub team know that working in schools is tough and that there is a lack of accessible, affordable and confidential support available for them locally - this is why we have designed the Sanctuary Meetings. The meetings will be kept on task by Anita as without high expectations on professionalism, especially confidentiality, they will not work. Anita intends for them to be positive and proactive meetings to help attendees to cope and deal with any problems that they may be having, not a chance for a moan or gossip.
Our Sanctuary Meetings are specifically designed for either teachers or support staff as we feel their needs are probably different - there are further sanctuary sessions planned for supply staff and parents. The meetings are open to those who are new to the role and those who have experience; the more diverse the group, the more valuable the input.
The meetings will be run by Anita who is a trained, and highly experienced, coach and mentor. The format for the Sanctuary Meetings will be that Anita will begin the sessions by sharing an idea or strategy that she thinks may be useful following previous feedback and discussions. The group will then be welcomed to discuss their own experiences, ideas and support; this will facilitate peer-to-peer support alongside Anita's contributions.
As the initial Sanctuary Meetings will be our first in this academic year, Anita will lead with an initial coaching technique that she has found very useful in the past, and that she thinks might help attendees to start to identify key issues and action plan for their next steps. Outcomes from this will be discussed in the following meeting.
Anita will also be available to provide people with a chance to book individual coaching if they think they need more specific support, and we will also be offering this coaching / mentoring service to schools.
Price £5 to include refreshments. Advance booking is essential as Anita needs to ensure she has enough nibbles and wine! If you would like to book, please email Anita on anita.auer2021@outlook.com and all correspondence will be dealt with confidentially as per our Privacy Policy.
If you are in need of our help but cannot afford the £5, we have several options available - you pay what you can or you pay nothing but still book; we are hoping to eventually secure some sponsorship for these events, or ask people to donate to a 'pay it forward' scheme to help others in need of our help.
